Our organization is based on the work of the missionary Josetxo Beasain Martinez. The altruistic and non-profit NGO Herriak Elkarlanean was founded in 1990 following the example of Josetxo Martinez. It is a group of volunteers and it is opened to anyone who wants to help the needed. Herriak Elkarlanean works with Basque Diocesan Missions to develop their projects.

Josetxo Martinez Irusta, born in Beasain is, perhaps, the responsible that Elkarlanean Herriak is running. Josetxo, our missionary, whom we have often heard of his beloved Angola and his projects, was a leading figure in Angola.

Among his many achievements includes the establishment of a vocational school for young agrarians in Angola, where he taught young people to cultivate the crops and raise animals etc.. He cretaed its own clinic at a local mission, where he serve up to 100 patients a day and then later built a hospital equipped with several doctors and nurses.

"I used to serve about 100 people who came very early to queue. They entered in order and I did what I could to to help with diseases (malaria mostly, but also childhood diarrhea and vomiting.) People were grateful to be relieved."

Finally, thanks to their ability to sleight, he had the opportunity to entertain and make children laugh in Angola. This facility for conjuring made him to be known as "The White Witch of Angola".
